Pamela Lawton is a recipient of the U.S. Fulbright Scholar award for 2019-20. Based at the Siena Art Institute in Italy, her grant sought to strengthen connections between her art-making and teaching practices, making her art more tactile in tandem with her multi-sensory teaching approaches. Lawton was invited to teach at the Uffizi Gallery, the Palazzo Pitti, and the Benaki Museum in Athens, among other venues, where she engaged with communities of people with low or no vision and/or hearing loss and the artists, archaeologists and educators who serve them. In the process, in fulfilling the Fulbright promise of international cultural exchange, she transformed her own work. She is grateful to the Italian Fulbright Commission and the Siena Art Institute.
